Sound

Sound Terminology
Within these two categories there are many terms for the different types of music which will need to be used in the examination, I have written about the extract in the terms of representation beneath:

Non-diegetic (the characters can't hear)
Title music: a theme tune(specific to a certain genre or to represent of TV drama)
Score/incidental music: orchestral music which connotes a tone or atmosphere
Sound motifs: a sound associated with a certain character that connote whether something bad of good happens, for example the sound for Jaws
Sound effects: to connote an atmosphere
Voice over: can be used to give the viewer an insight into a characters thought(create a bond between the audience and character), to set the scene or progress the narrative

Diegetic (the characters can hear)
Synchronous sound: sounds that relate to what you can see on the screen
Sound effects: realistic sounds to match an action to create realism or connote an atmosphere, such as gun shots
Dialogue: when a character is talking
Ambient sound: background noise to make the clip realistic
